George Mills was born on August 30, 1850, and pursued his legal education at Osgoode Hall Law School. In 1881, he was called to the Bar. Early in his career, George was associated with the law firm of Sir James A. M. Aikens for about four years, gaining valuable experience.

In 1880, George married Kitty Jones in London, England. Just a few years later, in 1884, his younger brother Alexander, newly admitted to the Ontario Bar, joined him to form the firm of Mills & Mills. This partnership flourished for 34 years, establishing a legacy of legal excellence.

In the later years of his career, George expanded his professional interests into the life insurance field, working in collaboration with his older brother, Jesse Mills. Despite his growing involvement in insurance, George maintained his legal practice until 1918, after which he devoted nearly all his time to the insurance business, though he continued to do some legal work periodically.

George and Kitty had five children together, and throughout his life, he was known as a devoted family man and a respected professional. He passed away in Toronto on January 10, 1932, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and service, remembered as a man who was “widely known and greatly respected”. (Mutual Life)
