Women, Business and the Law 2021 is the seventh report in a series that provides objective measures of legal and regulatory barriers to women’s entrepreneurship and employment in 190 economies. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that threatens progress toward gender equality, this report identifies barriers to women’s economic participation and encourages reform of discriminatory laws.

Mills & Mills LLP Senior Associate Reshma Kishnani contributed to this year’s report by sharing her insight into the current status of Ontario’s employment laws and reforms as they relate to addressing gender equality, including protections for women in the workplace. She also discussed the Ontario provincial government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic with the research team including the addition of the Infectious Diseases Emergency Leave provisions to the ESA and working with frontline workers to provide emergency child care services early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virtual launch event for the Women, Business and the Law 2021 report took place on Monday, March 1st. You can follow and participate in the online conversation by using the hashtag #WomenBizLaw. To learn more or to download the report, visit https://wbl.worldbank.org.
